The College English Association of Ohio (CEAO) condemns the oppression of all marginalized people and asserts that Black Lives Matter. We recognize that teachers of English Studies in Ohio have been engaged in addressing racism and inequality in the classroom and engaging students in productive discussions about anti-racist activities beyond the classroom. We encourage all who teach English Studies to continue and expand this effort as they find best suits their teaching methods. We also encourage our colleagues to self-reflect and explore the ways that they themselves may be subject to racially-motivated implicit bias so that we might better serve our students in solidarity and equality. We encourage English Studies scholarship and research to continue to pursue ways to use language and literature to address biases and oppression.
